Structural Engineering Intern (Bridge) - Summer 2027
About the Role
We are seeking a Structural Bridge Engineering Intern to work in our St. Charles, Illinois office. This entry-level position involves assisting the St. Charles Highway Group with the development of studies, reports, and bridge construction plans. The role focuses on mastering technical work functions and developing professional discipline skills under direct supervision.
- Perform routine engineering assignments
- Compile data and utilize applied software and technology for engineering analysis
- Assist in the preparation of reports
- Complete elementary design calculations
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and estimates
- Prepare engineering plans utilizing CADD
- Observe ongoing and completed construction projects
Requirements
- Working toward obtaining a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- 0 to 4 years of bridge/structural design experience
- Exposure to AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred
- Previous internship experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or related experience
- AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience
- Experience or exposure to IDOT plans preparation and design standards
- Specific interest in Transportation/Roadway Design
Pay
The typical pay range for this position in Illinois is $21 to $27 per hour, commensurate with experience.
