About the role

NorthStar Energy Services is seeking a Structural Engineer / Project Engineer to join our collaborative multidisciplinary team. This dual-role position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on structural analysis and design with broader project leadership, supporting projects from concept and detailed design through construction, commissioning, and startup.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Establish structural design criteria and independently perform engineering analyses, calculations, and code interpretations for energy facilities.
  • As Project Engineer, define project scope, schedule, and budget; coordinate procurement and vendor activities; and serve as a key technical connection among clients, internal disciplines, and third-party partners throughout the project lifecycle.

Structural Engineering

  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and design activities for a broad range of structural deliverables, including:
  • Steel structural analysis and design of equipment skids, platforms, pipe racks, and cable tray racks
  • Civil structures, including retaining walls and deep and shallow foundations for heavy, lightly loaded, and rotating equipment
  • Foundations and supports for pumps, electrical stands and buildings, process equipment (separators, meter skids, etc.), manifold piping, and tanks
  • Demolition plans, rebar schedules, material take-offs, and structural bills of material
  • Apply and interpret applicable structural codes and standards, including ACI 318, ASCE 7, AISC, IBC, and OSHA requirements
  • Review site-specific geotechnical reports and incorporate relevant findings into site development and foundation design

Project Engineering & Deliverable Management

  • Serve as Project Engineer for assigned projects, with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and coordinated technical execution across engineering disciplines
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary deliverables and serve as the primary day-to-day technical point of contact for the client
  • Develop and maintain core project documentation, including design basis documents, scopes of work, deliverable lists, and progress reports
  • Support procurement through RFQs, technical bid evaluations, and purchase recommendations; review shop fabrication and third-party vendor drawings for compatibility with the intended structural design
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of drawings and cross-discipline deliverables to verify safe, code-compliant designs that align with project objectives
  • Incorporate company standards, municipal requirements, and applicable regulatory codes into project deliverables
  • Respond to RFIs throughout the project lifecycle with clear, timely technical guidance
  • Conduct field assessments and walkdowns to gather information needed to support sound design decisions
  • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup, including punch list resolution and as-built documentation

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Candidates should be prepared to participate in a technical interview as part of the selection process
  • This is a fully office-based position

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • Working proficiency with SAP, SAFE, and L-Pile structural programs and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of ACI 318, ASCE 7, AISC, IBC, and OSHA codes and standards
  • Preferred, but not required: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain one
  • Preferred, but not required: experience with Plant 3D Structure and CADWorx, as well as construction or field experience
