About the role

Jacobs is seeking a talented Structural Engineer based out of Bellevue or Seattle, WA, to support the design and delivery of low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise building projects across the Pacific Northwest and Inland Northwest.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to structural design for a range of building types, including residential, mixed-use, commercial, civic, education, and institutional projects
  • Support engineering analysis and documentation for low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise structures using concrete, steel, wood-frame, mass timber, and hybrid systems
  • Participate in the development of framing concepts, gravity and lateral systems, and building structural strategies from early design through construction
  • Aid in structural calculations, modeling, and coordination of drawings and specifications
  • Work closely with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and specialty consultants to deliver well-integrated building solutions
  • Support project teams in addressing Pacific Northwest design considerations, including seismic design, lateral force-resisting systems, wind, gravity loading, and constructability
  • Contribute to mass timber pursuits and projects by helping evaluate system selection, connection strategies, coordination requirements, prefabrication opportunities, and code considerations
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Help advance quality, innovation, and sustainability in structural design practice

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant structural engineering experience in building design
  • Engineer-in-Training certification, or ability to obtain quickly
  • Familiarity with structural design in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, including applicable building codes and regional seismic requirements
  • Experience contributing to building projects across multiple scales, including low-rise, mid-rise, and ideally high-rise structures
  • Working knowledge of concrete, steel, wood-frame, and lateral system design
  • Demonstrated interest in mass timber, CLT, glulam, DLT, or hybrid timber systems
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineer license preferred, or clear path toward licensure
  • Project experience in the Pacific Northwest or similar seismic regions
  • Understanding of embodied carbon considerations, material efficiency, and sustainable structural design
  • Familiarity with coordination challenges and opportunities related to prefabrication and modular construction
  • Interest in contributing to technical excellence, thought leadership, and client-facing pursuits
