Responsibilities
- Lead the structural design of a wide range of gravity and lateral structural building systems utilizing concrete, masonry, steel, and wood / timber.
- Develop system layouts and calculations to support design activities.
- Evaluate multiple solutions to ensure compliance with design and regulatory standards, client expectations, and project requirements.
- Identify potential structural risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Estimate project hours, plan, schedule, and coordinate all technical work to successfully complete multiple projects simultaneously.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients as part of Klingner’s design processes.
- Conduct structural assessments and evaluations of structures to determine their safety, durability, and compliance with applicable codes.
- Prepare narratives and detailed engineering reports outlining existing conditions, recommendations, and opinions of probable cost, as necessary.
- Write clear project scopes for proposals.
- Conduct meetings and project presentations to provide progress updates, address concerns, and gather client feedback.
- Monitor applicable codes, standards, and regulations and apply them to all design and inspection work.
- Track project scope, schedule, and budget to minimize project write-offs.
- Leverage various software and tools to perform structural analysis, modeling, and simulations.
- Provide mentorship to younger engineers and technical staff.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years working experience in industrial and / or commercial work.
- A Bachelor of Science in Civil, Architectural, or Agricultural Engineering, specializing in structures.
- Must hold a Professional Engineer license in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, or Kentucky.
- A Structural Engineer licensure is a plus. Otherwise, future intentions of taking the Structural Engineer Exam is preferred.
- Excellent working knowledge of Revit is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and other Microsoft Office software is a must.
- A solid understanding of structural engineering standards and an extensive working experience with a variety of State, Federal, and private design projects.
- Experience preparing construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates is required.
- Excellent time management skills, organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple complex projects and tasks concurrently, and a commitment to meeting deadlines and keeping projects within budget is required.
- Able to conduct all projects by quality standards and Klingner procedures, with a strong focus of on accuracy and quality of work.
- Experience writing thorough reports and studies, scopes of work, and proposals.
- A strong technical background with skillsets in problem-solving, creativity, and attention to detail.
- Goal-oriented with a drive to create high-quality designs, a strong sense of commitment, the willingness to learn, and the desire to work in a team environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication is a must.
