Structural Engineer (35593)

Department: Civil/Structural Engineering | Location: Billings, MT, or Salt Lake City, UT (onsite) | Rates: $50.00 - $85.00 per hour

About the Role

Develop calculations and specifications for feasibility studies, permits, and construction packages. Design steel and concrete structures, foundations, and retaining walls while ensuring code compliance. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams on industrial and petrochemical projects. Analyze survey data and geotechnical information for project planning and design development. Conduct periodic field visits to monitor construction progress, ensure design conformance, and perform integrity evaluations of existing industrial structures and equipment supports.

Responsibilities

• Develop structural calculations and specifications for feasibility studies, permits, and construction packages.
• Design steel and concrete structures, foundations, and retaining walls in compliance with applicable codes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on industrial and petrochemical projects.
• Analyze survey data and geotechnical information to inform project planning and design.
• Conduct field visits to monitor construction progress and ensure design conformance.
• Perform integrity evaluations of existing industrial structures and equipment supports.

Requirements

• BS in Civil Engineering.
• EIT license required.
• 3+ years of structural engineering experience.
• Structural steel experience (must have).
• Proficiency in designing steel and concrete structures, foundations, retaining walls, and seismic design.
• Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI codes.
• Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and RISA3D.

Preferred Qualifications

• Petrochemical or heavy industrial industry background.
• Experience with wood and masonry design.
• Blast resistant design and Arctic engineering experience.
• Vibration control foundation design.
• Grading, paving, hydrology, or wastewater experience.

• Able to sit, stand, and perform computer work for extended periods.

• Ability to travel to local and remote job sites as required by projects.
• Capable of working in heavy industrial environments while wearing required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, fire-retardant clothing, gloves, etc.).
• Able to climb ladders, stairs, and work on elevated surfaces.
• Able to walk on uneven terrain and surfaces.
• May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and industrial environments during site visits.
