About the Role
You will be responsible for performing all aspects of complete design for civil/structural assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. With experience at this level, you will assist in designing larger and more complex civil/structural projects under general supervision.
Responsibilities
- Familiarity with and utilization of department design and drafting standards.
- Recognizing project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
- Reviewing and comprehending the latest information regarding civil/structural calculations, equipment drawings, layouts, or drawings from other disciplines before initiating design efforts.
- Drafting civil/structural plans with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of civil material specifications to ensure all required information for material purchase, fabrication, and construction is reflected on finished drawings.
- Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.
- Performing field-related work to collect design information and verify designs for tie-ins, function, and clearances to existing facilities.
- Providing temporary field support for engineering during construction, where assigned.
- Assisting engineers with cost and material estimates and preliminary design studies.
- Checking the accuracy and quality of drawings developed by drafters based on engineering calculations and discipline drawings.
- Mentoring entry-level and new teammates.
- Developing virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships while providing interoffice execution support under general supervision.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.
- 4+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural drafting and design.
Skills
- Ability to produce drawings for concrete, structural steel, and/or civil disciplines.
- Familiarity with specifications and details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
- Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
- Ability to create accurate civil/structural construction documents from vendor equipment drawings.
- Understanding of workflow and information flow between disciplines.
- Understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for civil/structural deliverables.
- Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
- Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or both).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good presentation skills.
