Structural Design Authority Engineer (DAE)

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a Structural Design Authority Engineer (DAE) to apply site, local, state, and national codes and standards to nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, delivering conventional engineering and scientific solutions in a timely, cost-effective, and safe manner.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspection of safety-related structural systems, structural analysis, and calculations for changing facility conditions such as equipment movement and major facility modifications.
• Support fall protection analyses.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and requirements, including:
  • International Building Code (IBC)
  • American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures (ASCE-7)
  • American Concrete Institute codes
  • American Institute of Steel Construction specifications
  • Savannah River Site and Department of Energy codes and standards (e.g., Structural Design Criteria, Qualifications of Systems, Equipment and Components for Natural Phenomena Hazards, Coring/Chipping/Drilling in Concrete, Installation and Inspection of Penetration Seals)
• Climb stairs and ladders, support work in radiological areas, and participate in field walkdowns indoors and outdoors.
• Develop and adhere to schedules while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills and work effectively as part of a team.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer License in Civil or Structural discipline (preferred).
• Experience working in Department of Energy or other nuclear facilities (preferred).
• Structural Design or Analysis experience in government or private sector (preferred).
• Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD design software (preferred).
• Active DOE “L” or “Q” clearance (preferred).
