About the role
This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The MK2 Crew Lander is designed to return humans to the Moon and establish permanent human presence beyond Earth.
Responsibilities
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Generate FEMs
- Perform strength checks using classical hand calculations
- Conduct Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) for critical components
- Make predictions, implement test campaigns, and create reports in support of hardware qualifications
- Collaborate with design engineers to optimize designs for weight, strength, and manufacturability
- Document and review of structural analyses to support the release of engineering drawings/documents
- Provide input for configuration development and trade studies as needed
- Mentor and analyze checks for designers and junior structural analysts in stress/stability/fracture analysis and standard processes
- Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve structural analysis processes
Requirements
- B.S. in Engineering
- 5+ years of professional experience performing structural analysis on aircraft, spacecraft or launch vehicle structures
- Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle load path and stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures
- Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc.)
- Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications to achieve optimal structures
- Experience with at least one of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct, NASGRO
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment with partners
- Willingness to work on-site with occasional travel
Qualifications
- Experience performing structural analysis of liquid or gaseous propulsion tubing/systems
- Experience supporting planning and execution of system or vehicle-level testing
- Experience analyzing/dispositioning non-conformances

- Proficient in performing detailed structural analysis for space vehicle structures or propulsion systems
- Experience with fluid systems and geometry optimization methods
- Experience with metallic structural layout, analysis, testing, and qualification methods
- Experience writing detailed design and analysis reports
- Experience analyzing/dispositioning non-conformances
