About the role
The STRONG Kids Assistant will assist in providing quality care in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment for all children and families that utilize the YMCA STRONG Kids program. Staff are responsible for the overall success of day-to-day operations, high-quality childcare, and meeting internal and external child and parent needs. Ensures all participants are afforded a quality experience and programs reflect the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervisory support at the YMCA: M-F 8-11am, M-Th 4-7pm, and Saturday 8am-12pm
- Maintain records as required (e.g., attendance, inventory, incident reports)
- Ensure all staff, children, and parents respect YMCA property and follow STRONG Kids rules
- Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents, or co-workers
- Maintain open communication with the School Age Director and Coordinator
- Comply with daily cleaning procedures
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures
- Complete incident and accident reports as necessary
Requirements
- CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification, Child Abuse Prevention, and Mandated Reporter certification within 30 days of hire
- 16 years of age or older
- Previous experience working with children preferred
Working Conditions
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for extended periods of time
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight
- Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
- Ability to interact with and demonstrate program activities to youth

Pay
USD $15.00 - USD $22.50 per hour
Schedule
Hours vary Monday through Saturday, approximately 12-15 hours per week. Supervisory support shifts include: M-F 8-11am, M-Th 4-7pm, and Saturday 8am-12pm.
