Rosie’s House, one of the nation’s largest free music education non-profits, seeks a String Ensemble Instructor (short-term sub) for its Afterschool Program while the faculty instructor is on leave of absence. The role supports students in grades 5-12 who have completed two years of beginning strings classes, focusing on beginner–intermediate fundamentals of instrument technique and music literacy in ensembles of approximately 30 students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach string ensemble groups for students in grades 5-12
  • Create lesson plans and supplement materials as needed
  • Evaluate and report on the progress of students
  • Prepare students for concerts and recital performances
  • Collaborate with other strings and winds faculty for large group performances
  • Attend faculty meetings and special school events

Schedule

  • Weekly commitment: Tuesday 5:00pm–8:00pm (3 ensembles, 3 hours total)
  • Assignment dates: August 18th – October 10th
  • Additional hours required for training, special projects, and events

School year calendar highlights: Fall Semester (August 17th – December 16th), Spring Semester (January 4th – May 5th), with breaks for Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, and Spring Break.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of youth strings pedagogy and ensemble development
  • Experience teaching and evaluating students in grades K-12 consistently over 2+ years, with proven results in their learning and musical development
  • Ability to identify and meet students’ diverse learning needs
  • Commitment to respectful, compassionate, and active communication with students, families, colleagues, and staff
  • Passion for transforming lives through high-quality music education
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years teaching experience, or 6 years equivalent youth development experience
  • Fingerprint clearance card (or ability to obtain one)
  • Preferred: Arizona Teaching Certification, Master’s degree, or Doctoral degree

Pay

$60/hour
