Hybrid$110k–$130k/yrFull-time
About the role
Welcome to the future of energy. Octopus is a tech-powered energy company dedicated to addressing climate change through innovative solutions. We are seeking a Strategy Associate to join our US strategy team, which focuses on transformative commercial opportunities rather than traditional strategy roles. This role involves taking strategic concepts from inception to operational reality.
Responsibilities
- Owning discrete strategic projects end to end: sizing the opportunity, building the case, getting the decision made, and standing the thing up
- Working across the US energy landscape to identify emerging opportunities (battery deployment, powered land, retail supply, utility programs)
- Realizing the value in M&A activity: integrating acquired businesses and capabilities, pursuing synergies, and building proof points for further strategy
- Turning early-stage bets into repeatable operations: first deal, first site, first market, first customer cohort, and the playbook that enables scale
- Partnering with the OE US CFO on strategic finance and budgeting; building the plan, pressure-testing the numbers, and ensuring the budget reflects strategic priorities
- Building the commercial and analytical foundations; unit economics, market structure, counterparty landscape
- Operating on intent: you'll get the destination and constraints, not a project plan
Requirements
- A strong analytical foundation from a strategy consultancy, investment bank, PE/VC, corp dev, high-growth operating role, or service background with a track record of doing, not just recommending
- Fluency in spreadsheets and understanding of how budgets, forecasts, and business cases connect to strategic projects
- Comfort owning outcomes with limited oversight; asking for help when needed
- Commercial instinct for deals, integrations, and partnerships; discipline to track synergy cases from thesis through to the P&L
- Enough technical curiosity to quickly learn unfamiliar ground (state-level energy retail regulations, interconnection queues, capacity markets, ISO rules, tariff design) without needing to be an expert on day one
Qualifications
- Passionate about decarbonization and the US energy transition
- A bias for action and a high tolerance for ambiguity
Skills
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Technical curiosity and willingness to learn new areas quickly
Benefits
- Competitive salary range: $110,000 - $130,000 annually
- Equity options in the whole Octopus Energy Group
- Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 20 days of paid vacation and 8 paid sick days annually
- 401(k) plan with employer match
- Parental leave
- Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible
- Flexible working environment
Pay
The expected salary range for this role is between $110,000-$130,000 annually. Your exact compensation will be determined by your location, professional experience, and how well your unique skills align with the role's specific needs.
