Strategy and Operations Analyst

Entertainment Earth · Simi Valley, CA · 1 wk ago

About the role

The Strategy & Operations Analyst will be a critical member of the Entertainment Earth Operations team, reporting to the SVP of Operations. This role goes beyond operational reporting: it is responsible for building a deep, data-driven understanding of who EE's customers are across both the Direct-to-Consumer and Wholesale channels, and using that commercial understanding – along with purchasing, inventory, and process data – to drive strategic projects for the SVP and executive team.

This role is distinct from the financial planning and budgeting work led by FP&A; where FP&A owns the P&L and forecast, this role owns the question of who EE's business serves, where the priority growth and profitability opportunities are, and how EE can best deploy to execute against those priorities. The Strategy & Operations Analyst plays a key role in giving executive leadership a clear, data-driven understanding of who EE's customers are and where the business's strategic opportunities lie – while also ensuring commercial and operational decisions are grounded in data and executed correctly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support strategic and commercial projects for the SVP of Operations and executive team:
    • Conduct market, competitive, and business-opportunity research and analysis to inform strategic decisions.
    • Build business cases and financial/operational models for new initiatives, partnerships, or investments.
    • Take ambiguous, open-ended strategic questions and structure them into clear workplans with analytic steps, project milestones, and recommendations.
  • Build a comprehensive, data-driven picture of EE's customer base across Direct-to-Consumer and Wholesale:
    • Segment customers by channel, order size, category, geography, and buying frequency to identify and understand EE’s target and future consumers/customers.
    • Identify EE's most valuable customer segments and retailer partners, and surface trends in retention, churn, and growth.
    • Translate customer insights into recommendations on where to focus product, purchasing, and go-to-market decisions.
  • Support the Operations team:
    • Validate data migration accuracy between legacy systems, NetSuite, and Shopify.
    • Build transition-period reporting to flag discrepancies before and after ERP cutover.
    • Analyze operational performance (purchasing, inventory, vendor management, and facilities) to identify efficiency opportunities and connect them back to the broader strategic picture.
  • Partner with FP&A on data consistency where customer, operational, and financial metrics intersect (e.g., channel profitability, customer lifetime value), while maintaining ownership of customer and operational analysis distinct from FP&A's financial planning and budgeting work.
  • Prepare materials for executive and board-level strategy discussions, including Monthly Business Reviews and strategic planning sessions.
  • Perform ad-hoc strategic and operational analyses for the SVP of Operations as priorities arise.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in strategy, business analytics, management consulting, or a related analytical role; e-commerce, wholesale distribution, or consumer products experience preferred.
  • BA or BS degree required (Business, Economics, Strategy, Operations, or related field); MBA a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience structuring and answering open-ended, ambiguous business questions – not just maintaining existing reports.
  • Strong customer/segmentation analysis skills; experience working with CRM, order, or transaction-level data to profile a customer base is a significant plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills required; experience with SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Shopify, or comparable platforms) preferred, particularly during implementation or migration.
  • Comfortable building business cases and financial models to support strategic recommendations.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively and cross-functionally with Purchasing, Marketing, Sales, Facilities, IT, Finance, and executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting strategic findings directly to senior executives.
