Strategic Sourcing Specialist

  • Procurement of goods and services
    Duties include developing customer relations and delivering intense, personal customer service, developing supplier relations and overseeing vendor management processes, maintaining sound fiscal principles, and practicing the core value of respect for sacred resources.

  • Commodity management
    Analyzing university spend by department, recognizing areas for cost avoidance and cost savings, leveraging spend opportunities to maximize buying power for the university, analyzing spend by supplier, recognizing areas for consolidation and reduction of supplier base.

  • Results measurement
    Duties include leading and participating in the scorecard initiative, monthly reporting on key metrics within the department deployed offices, recognizing areas where behavior needs to be changed or improved, and participating in a continuous improvement process recommending areas where measurement may drive desired performance.

  • Migration of customer base to electronic format
    Duties include introducing, training, and continually supporting the Y- Marketplace initiative, aiding in the development of the electronic procurement process, facilitating acceptance of the electronic P2P function, integrating the paperless procure to pay system.

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
    Bachelor’s degree, preferably in supply chain management or a related field of study, plus 2 years’ experience in a supply management setting OR a minimum of 6 years’ experience in a supply management setting, if no bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience in managing supplier and manufacturer relationships
    E-sourcing experience
    Well-developed knowledge of specialty sourcing strategies and trends by product category
    Formally developed negotiation skills with verifiable experience
    Proven ability to influence business decisions in the interest of safety and risk mitigation
    Expert level of written and verbal communication skills
    Advanced knowledge of procurement principles, processes, and price/cost methodology
    Spend analysis, Customer interaction, Vendor management, Sourcing strategy development, E-procurement integration, Results measurement, Negotiation skills

PREFERRED

  • Contract management experience including draft and execution
    Excellent computer skills in Excel, Word Perfect, Outlook, and PowerPoint
    Working knowledge of Workday
    Conflict resolution skills
    CPSM certification through ISM
