Strategic Purchaser

The position of Strategic Purchaser is currently being managed by a partner company on behalf of a client. They are seeking a Strategic Purchaser based in the United States.

About the role

You will play a key part in shaping supplier strategies and directly influencing business performance through effective sourcing decisions. You will work closely with production, engineering, logistics, and operations teams to translate business needs into sourcing strategies. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, giving you ownership over supplier negotiations and improvement initiatives. You will contribute to long-term supply security while driving measurable value through procurement excellence.

Accountabilities

• Develop sourcing strategies and manage supplier relationships to ensure procurement activities support business objectives.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to optimize cost, quality, and supply performance.
• Lead supplier negotiations to secure competitive pricing, favorable contracts, and sustainable commercial agreements.
• Develop and execute sourcing strategies to improve supplier performance, availability, and long-term supply stability.
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships through regular reviews, collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Partner with engineering, logistics, production, and operations teams to align sourcing decisions with business requirements.
• Manage sourcing projects, including supplier onboarding, supplier development, and improvement plans for underperforming suppliers.
• Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and create measurable business value through procurement initiatives.
• Take ownership of supplier-related decisions and contribute to strategic procurement planning.

Requirements

• A combination of procurement expertise, strong commercial judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
• Experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, purchasing, or commercial roles with exposure to contract negotiations (approximately 3+ years).
• A strong understanding of supplier management, sourcing strategies, and commercial agreements.
• The ability to analyze costs, evaluate supplier performance, and negotiate effective solutions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and seniority levels.
• The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take ownership of procurement decisions.
• Fluency in English communication skills; additional language skills are considered an advantage.
• A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, problem-solving, and delivering results.
