About the role

Global Engineering Services (GES) North America (NA) is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Strategic Planning Program Manager (SPM) to join their Business Strategy and Execution team. The goal of SPMs is three-fold:

  • Serve as trusted advisors and strategic partners to pillar leaders by proactively resolving blockers and delivering targeted solutions.
  • Develop standard mechanisms and goals that drive organizational alignment and operational excellence.
  • Support end-to-end talent strategy execution including hiring coordination and resource management.

SPMs value their direct relationship with customers and stakeholders to ensure that all requests are evaluated and prioritized on data-driven analyses aligned with strategic directives for the business. This role involves creating and driving impactful changes while simplifying processes, such as building working groups to solve business challenges, optimizing onboarding, owning end-to-end programmatic processes, facilitating meetings, and creating process-oriented solutions to save time and reduce redundancies.

You will work with a variety of roles including technical program managers, design and controls engineers, and operations engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. GES NA works on hundreds of projects of varying complexity each year. You will coordinate and collaborate with fellow engineers and managers across teams to deliver outcomes that optimize the GES NA network. This role requires 50% travel on a yearly basis. When not traveling, you must work from a corporate office. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of one of the corporate office locations listed. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Responsibilities

  • High degree of organization: Manage and prioritize scope, remain nimble for last-minute requests, coordinate meetings, and plan timelines. Bridging materials, managing resources, and effective meeting facilitation are integral.
  • Dealing with Ambiguity & Strategic Problem Solving: Handle situations that are not fully explained or understood, finding creative solutions to nuanced problems. Demonstrate grit and ownership to step in and innovate.
  • Written and Verbal Communication: Articulate ideas in both written and verbal formats, including documents and presentations reviewed by leadership. Use concise language, embrace feedback, and speak confidently.
  • Business & Data Analytics: Leverage data and business insights to drive strategic decision-making and operational efficiency. Collect, process, and analyze complex data to identify trends, translating findings into actionable solutions, standardized tools, and scalable templates. Establish relevant metrics and templates for business reviews, ensure data quality, and synthesize complex information into clear, business-aligned solutions.
  • Program/Product Management: Lead, coordinate, and drive programs (and products) to completion. Build engineering programs, manage stakeholder expectations, and ensure successful outcomes. Demonstrate ownership, earn trust, and meet completion dates.

A day in the life of an SPM may vary depending on scope and pillar support but includes managing leadership-aligned programs, gathering key inputs for goals and business reviews, improving communications between teams, and deciphering ambiguity. Deliverables and workback schedules drive teams to completion, requiring fungibility between program management, product development, and supply chain experience.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of program or project management experience.
  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with tech and non-tech teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other STEM field.
  • Experience developing operational processes and data insights.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Excel and SQL.
  • Experience in process engineering, strategic planning, program management, or business operations roles supporting engineering or technical organizations.
  • Experience building and maintaining business reporting frameworks, dashboards, or KPI tracking systems.
  • Travel up to 50% (nationwide). Travel involves air travel to regional airports and driving to site locations. A valid driver's license is required due to project assignments in areas with limited public transportation and rideshare options.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of program management or technical project management experience.
  • Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level.
  • Experience in creating process improvements with automation and analysis, or identifying and executing opportunities to improve, automate, standardize, or simplify business tools and processes.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma tools, Lean techniques, PMP, or similar standards.
  • Experience in complex cross-functional change management.
