The application window is open until at least October 12, 2026 (may close earlier or later based on business needs).
About the role
Google's infrastructure needs go far beyond server computers. As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future — everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships, and presenting deal recommendations to Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.
The Energy Market Development team endeavors to help Google achieve its goal of a low-cost, clean, and reliable energy supply for its global fleet of data centers. As a Strategic Negotiator for Energy Impact & Strategic Initiatives, you will play a critical role in this mission by architecting, launching, and scaling high-impact energy programs. In this role, you will evaluate and design affordability initiatives — such as community solar and low-to-moderate-income (LMI) programs — deploying Google's resources to maximize community benefits. By partnering with electric utilities, program administrators, and community stakeholders, you will translate complex energy frameworks into replicable program models. You will provide end-to-end business operations support and work cross-functionally to ensure our energy strategies seamlessly integrate with broader programmatic funding and positively impact the communities we operate in.
Responsibilities
- Lead the evaluation and design of energy impact programs, analyzing existing utility frameworks like energy efficiency and community solar to deploy Google’s resources and maximize community benefit.
- Architect, launch, and scale high-impact energy programs by tapping into established utility programs and state-level initiatives, translating complex energy frameworks into actionable, replicable models.
- Provide business operations support across strategic energy initiatives by establishing budget models, evaluating program ROI and impact metrics, and building sound financial governance processes to ensure scalable execution.
- Work cross-functionally with Global Infrastructure, Finance, Legal, and Public Policy teams to streamline workflows, integrate programmatic funding streams, and align affordability strategies with broader strategic initiatives.
- Partner with electric utilities and community stakeholders to structure, negotiate, and operationalize energy impact programs, ensuring seamless contract execution, cost tracking, compliance reporting, and continuous program optimization.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 years of experience negotiating and structuring agreements or leading business development.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience scaling energy programs or strategic initiatives by partnering with utilities, state agencies, or non-profits to deliver measurable community benefits.
- Experience in energy sector business operations or program finance, including financial modeling, budget oversight, KPI measurement, and contract administration.
- Knowledge of utility frameworks, clean energy delivery channels, and energy affordability programs (e.g., LMI offerings, community solar, energy efficiency, retail rates).
- Ability to solve complex, multi-stakeholder challenges in ambiguous environments, with strong executive presence, project management, and relationship-building skills.
