About the role

The Strategic Medical Director will report to the VP, Sr. Medical Director Clinical Strategy and will drive new clinical program design, strategy, and innovation. They will work closely with clients to understand their needs and shape Cohere's clinical strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the vision and evolution of Cohere’s clinical and digital care management offerings
  • Utilize market data, consumer research, and patient analytics to spearhead new clinical delivery services
  • Create comprehensive research packages and cultivate external partnerships
  • Partner with the SVP Clinical Strategy on new projects
  • Join WISeR meetings to guide rule development and serve as a physician resource
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Specialty Rx program design and strategy
  • Travel as a clinical expert for prospective client meetings and sales opportunities
  • Build and expand client relationships by uncovering pain points and delivering solutions
  • Participate in strategic planning for Cohere’s clinical and digital care management strategy
  • Initiate and maintain cross-team relationships

Requirements

  • Completed US-based residency program in Orthopedic Surgery, Spine Surgery, Pain Medicine, or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
  • Board certification as an MD or DO with a current unrestricted state license to practice medicine
  • 5+ years of clinical practice beyond residency/fellowship
  • 5+ years of experience in managed care or clinical strategy at a health plan, healthtech/solutions/services, expert consulting (partner-level), or related payer-facing roles
  • MBA or advanced degree in healthcare-related discipline preferred
  • Experience serving as the lead thinker / consulting partner, designing innovative clinical programs and interventions
  • Executive presence and effective communication with partners / clients
  • Strong communication and team management / interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities and ability to initiate and maintain cross-team relationships

Qualifications

  • Completed US-based residency program
  • Board certification as an MD or DO
  • 5+ years of clinical practice beyond residency/fellowship
  • 5+ years of experience in managed care or clinical strategy
  • MBA or advanced degree in healthcare-related discipline preferred
