About the role

The position is a contract role initially, with the potential to convert to full-time employment based on performance. It fills the immediate need for content strategy oversight while the current content department head is on leave.

Responsibilities

  • Review strategy before content exists, ensuring targeting, search intent, and funnel logic are aligned with the content briefs.
  • Edit for strategic alignment, verifying that every draft matches the intended persona, CTA, and search intent.
  • Create editing standards where necessary, addressing recurring issues and gaps in the editorial process.
  • Identify ranking opportunities missed in the brief and suggest adjustments to improve visibility.
  • Perform quality control checks, ensuring clarity, flow, tone, accuracy, and adherence to brand voice, metadata, and formatting standards.
  • Provide direct, specific, and actionable feedback to writers to help them improve their work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience editing strategic marketing content (SEO content, landing pages, email, PPC assets) in an agency or similar fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to identify weaknesses in SEO strategies and keyword selection, intent mapping, funnel logic, and content architecture.
  • Experience making independent editorial decisions during the leave period, with the ability to defend these decisions through documentation.
  • A collaborative approach, working effectively with writers, strategists, and project managers.
  • A balance between directness and kindness in providing feedback, aiming to uplift rather than deflate writers' confidence.
  • A desire for increased responsibility and leadership within the content department.

Qualifications

While not specified, candidates should have a strong background in digital marketing, particularly in SEO and content strategy, and experience working in a fast-paced, agency-like environment.

Skills

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. Proficiency in SEO best practices and content strategy is also crucial.

Benefits

The role offers a competitive contract rate, fully remote work, and the potential for full-time employment with benefits, PTO, and a professional development budget upon successful completion of the contract period.

Pay

Commensurate with experience, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 per month.

Schedule

Fully remote, with a need for meaningful overlap with US Eastern Time business hours for collaboration.
