Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced communications professional to lead the Business and Execution communications workstream for our Employee Communications team. This role will provide strategic counsel, planning, and execution support for BV Operations, Infrastructure Advisory, and Black & Veatch’s market sectors. The Strategic Communications Director will develop clear, consistent, and measurable communications that enhance understanding, engagement, and connection among employee-owners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide capacity management of direct reports while leading a workstream focused on aligning communications with business needs for the company’s sectors, client segments, regions, and operations groups.
  • Proactively engage in team strategy and development, developing and leading the implementation of internal communications strategy and messaging to increase employee engagement and message clarity.
  • Create and deliver internal communications content across multiple channels, including email updates, newsletters, intranet content, videos, events, and presentations.
  • Proactively work with key stakeholders, including executives, across the organization to ensure that all internal communication is aligned with business objectives and supports the company’s strategy, culture, and values.
  • Strengthen storytelling across the business by identifying project stories, client wins, field-focused content, leader visibility opportunities, and examples that reinforce strategy, culture, collaboration, and employee ownership.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of internal communications and make recommendations for improvement based on feedback and data analysis. This includes gathering engagement data, analyzing trends, and reporting insights to leadership.
  • Partner with all members of the Employee Communications team to proactively identify, create, and publish content, while also supporting editorial planning and long-term scheduling of communication initiatives.
  • Guide critical organizational change initiatives, leading development of multichannel campaigns to boost engagement and adoption.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field.
  • Strong experience in internal, employee-facing enterprise communications within a large corporation with emphasis on business strategy and execution; experience in the Engineering & Construction industry or B2B space.
  • Significant experience in employee communications, internal communications, executive communications, or corporate communications within a large, matrixed organization.
  • Fluency in leveraging AI platforms such as Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude etc. for communications activities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining internal communication tools (Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Viva Engage, Workshop, Divvy HQ).

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leaders, including experience developing leader messaging, executive talking points, town hall content, and business updates.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills including strong editorial skills.
  • Strong knowledge of communications strategy and channels.
  • Proven ability to develop consistent messaging aligned to business strategy.
  • Skilled at engaging in cross-functional teams and in working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
