Position Summary
FIVES NORTH AMERICAN COMBUSTION, INC. is hiring a permanent, full-time Strategic Buyer to join our team in Cleveland, OH. About the Role
Your role will involve developing and implementing sourcing strategies for assigned commodities and categories to improve quality, delivery, and cost. You will also lead supplier negotiations, analyze market trends, and build strong supplier partnerships. Additionally, you will collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and inventory teams to support production requirements and new product initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Determine method of procurement, including direct purchase, indirect purchase, RFQ, or strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Prepare RFQs to optimize commodity spend with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in a global sourcing arena.
- Own the supplier transition process.
- Lead supplier negotiations for pricing, contracts, terms, and service agreements within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
- Analyze market trends, supplier capabilities, pricing fluctuations, and industry risks to support business decisions.
- Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships while monitoring supplier performance metrics including quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost.
- Develop and grow suppliers in Best Cost Countries (BCCs).
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, supplier consolidation, and process improvements – all in executing the company’s savings objectives.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and inventory teams to support production requirements and new product initiatives.
- Lead supplier development and onboarding activities including supplier setup within ERP systems – creating suppliers, procuring tooling, monitoring samples, and approving production purchases.
- Resolve supplier performance issues and coordinate corrective actions with quality and operations teams.
- Support inventory optimization and long-term supply planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and import/export regulations including INCO terms.
- Approve invoices for payment and resolve invoice discrepancies as needed.
- Maintain accurate procurement records including contracts, supplier performance data, and purchasing history.
- Execute strategy from procurement director and procurement roadmap.
Requirements
- 7+ years of purchasing, strategic sourcing, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience negotiating supplier agreements and managing supplier relationships.
- Experience with domestic and international sourcing and importing into the U.S.
- Comprehensive understanding of supply chain management concepts and procurement best practices.
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and procurement software platforms.
- Ability to read bills of material and manufacturing routings.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
- Professional Certifications: Professional in Supply Chain Management (CSCP) or similar certifications preferred.
