Stormwater Engineer - Civil Engineer
What You Will Do
GFT is seeking an experienced Stormwater Engineer to join our Transportation Group in the tri-state (NY/NJ/CT) area. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of our NYC, NJ, or CT offices.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do On GFT’s transportation team
- Shape how communities move and thrive by reducing roadway/railway flooding, protecting homes and businesses, and keeping corridors open during storms.
- Improve water quality through green infrastructure, restore streams and wetlands around bridges and culverts, and create streets that serve drivers, transit riders, cyclists, and pedestrians.
- Turn complex sites into buildable solutions that fit neighborhoods and meet agency goals, balancing safety, mobility, and environmental stewardship.
- Help transportation agencies plan for climate risk, prioritize projects that deliver the most benefit for the cost, and guide construction teams so the finished work performs as intended from the first storm through the long life of the roadway network.
Education | Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer license in NY, NJ, and/or CT or the ability to obtain with reciprocity.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in stormwater engineering for roadway and/or rail projects preferred.
- Proficiency in MicroStation, StormCAD, PondPack, HEC-RAS, Excel, Word.
- Direct experience completing projects with public sector/municipal agencies in Greater New York, New Jersey, and/or Connecticut.
- Experience securing permits from environmental agencies authorizing floodplain impacts, wetland impacts, and erosion & sediment control designs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Compensation
The range for this position is salary range is $90,000 – $125,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
