About the role

The City of Aurora is seeking dedicated and collaborative individuals to join its team of talented and valued employees. The position is available in the Aurora Water – Planning and Engineering Division, specifically for a Drainage Engineer role focusing on preliminary drainage and civil plan drainage review.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews master drainage reports, preliminary drainage reports (site plans), and final drainage design (civil plans) for conformance to annexation agreements, city code ordinance, and specification manuals
  • Actively coordinates projects with the City’s Floodplain Administrator and Drainage Planning staff and may participate in basin-wide planning efforts including MDPs, OSPs, FHADs, etc.
  • Participates or leads criteria evaluation and updates
  • Reviews drainage studies for conformance to hydrology, hydraulic and Mile High Flood District criteria
  • Maintains coordination with other departments, consultants, and government agencies
  • Manages and prioritizes workload
  • Provides technical expertise to other departments and divisions
  • Responds to requests from City staff and members of City Council
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Engineering Degree from ABET accredited program
  • Experience:
    • Engineer I: No experience required
    • Engineer II: Required: Two (2) years of construction development, performing engineering calculations, reviewing design criteria and performing project (or task) management
    • Project Engineer I: Required: Minimum of four (4) years of reviewing design/construction drawings, performing engineering calculations, reviewing design criteria and performing project (or task) management
  • Licenses or Certificates Required:
    • Engineer in Training/Engineering Intern license for Engineer II
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) with the State of Colorado or ability to obtain through reciprocity from another state within 6 months of employment for the Project Engineer classification
  • Preferred: Colorado Certified Floodplain Manager Certificate
  • Knowledge: Basic or intermediate knowledge of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications and project management, contract administration and procurement rules, plan review processes, department policies and procedures
  • Introductory or intermediate interaction with outside agencies and jurisdictions
  • Basic or intermediate ability to recommend field solutions
  • Presentation of task/project material at the staff/group or management level
  • Basic or intermediate ability to effectively manage consultants/contractors (scope of work, fee, change orders, direction)
  • Basic knowledge of applications required to perform job functions (MS Platform, Sharepoint, MS Teams)

Benefits

Salary is to be commensurate with experience. The hiring range for an Engineer I is $72,638 - $90,798/year, for an Engineer II is $79,902 - $99,877/year, and for a Project Engineer I is $87,266 - $109,083/year.
