Store Team Lead

About the Role

This position reports to the Store Manager and is responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of donated goods from collection to sales. Key areas include receiving, production, security, safety, loss prevention, merchandising, and sales transactions. The role also involves performing all duties of a Sales Associate and basic store operations in the absence of management, while providing excellent service to both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Directs and assigns daily job tasks to Sales Associates and Utility workers.
• Greets customers immediately upon entering the store and ensures a positive shopping experience.
• Ensures all donations and truck shipments are sorted, graded, and distributed efficiently to keep stores well-stocked with high-quality merchandise.
• Operates the cash register, ensuring prompt and pleasant transactions (customers wait no more than 15 seconds when first in line).
• Identifies merchandise for online sales and handles it according to established processes.
• Marks and stocks new goods according to procedures.
• Greets donors at their car, unloads items, and provides a positive donating experience, including offering tax receipt forms.
• Sorts donated materials to redirect 95% of unsaleable items to garbage or salvage.
• Ensures daily production expectations are met.
• Prevents theft by remaining alert and reporting suspicious activities to management.
• Assists with store upkeep, including shoveling snow, replacing light bulbs, and washing windows.
• Trains new team members on job duties, policies, and best practices.
• Delegates tasks under the Store Manager’s direction and holds team members accountable for standards.
• Maintains store appearance and safety through housekeeping and reporting repair needs.
• Completes monthly store inspections, health/safety checklists, and drills.
• Collaborates with the team to improve service and efficiency.
• Creates staff schedules and provides input on team member performance reviews.
• Recommends corrective actions to the Store Manager with supporting documentation.
• Performs store opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Completes and submits daily paperwork, deposits, reports, and truck orders.
• Communicates new or unusual information promptly to the Store Manager.
• Assists with preparing outgoing truck loads, including baling, sorting, operating a forklift, and loading/unloading.
• Minimizes waste and maximizes salvage revenue through recycling.
• Ensures equipment is in safe operating condition with all safeguards in place.
• Operates a forklift truck.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred; minimum of 2 years of military service, high school, or related full-time employment may substitute.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to direct, assign, and delegate daily tasks to team members.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Positive attitude and ability to inspire enthusiasm in others.
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull fifty pounds with assistance.
• Loyalty to the agency’s mission and policies.
• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule at multiple locations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Willingness to obtain a forklift license.
• Ability to use good judgment, discretion, and initiative.
