Personnel
- Train and supervise all employees, volunteers and auxiliary staff working in the thrift store.
- Handle personnel matters and documentation.
- Provide specific written input with reference to annual evaluations of employees and evaluation of trainees as needed from referring agencies.
- Provide regularly scheduled staff meetings with all store personnel to communicate to them the goals of the organization and recommendations for improving operations.
- Ensure all staff and volunteers are thoroughly orientated in safety and accident policy and procedures as outlined in The Salvation Army Employee Handbook.
General Responsibilities
- Provide quarterly documentation to support the pricing of merchandise using other thrift stores in the community as a comparison.
- Be responsible for the handling of the store sales income on a daily basis to include uniform procedures for: all types of cash, charge, check and voucher transactions; daily sales report documentation, bank deposits and cash/check donations.
- Ensure the frequent changing and upgrading of all store displays ensuring that all floor stock is attractively organized and frequently rearranged so as to cultivate customer interest.
- Ensure clothing is dated & color-coded tagging and remains on the sales floor at full and markdown prices for specific periods.
- Be responsible for the opening and closing procedures for the store.
- Delegate the arrangement for seasonal shopping and merchandise availability on continuing bases.
- Be authorized to reduce prices on any donated item that has been on the floor for the designated minimum period.
- Be cross-trained in all store positions and able to cover any open shifts to ensure full coverage.
- Absolutely assist in any given position during busy periods or periods of high volume (ex. cashiering, stocking, etc.).
- Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of the retail sales floor, production area, building in general, vehicles, and all restrooms.
- Order any supplies needed to perform daily operations.
Customer/Community Relations
- Ensure store clerks positively acknowledge and treat all customers in a courteous manner.
- Ensure all staff/workers are treated with the same respect and fairness while working in the store.
- Handle customer complaints in a professional manner by all staff.
- The SS should personally handle complaints with regard to the sales floor and immediately notify the Manager of the facts surrounding the complaint and the disposition thereof.
Maintenance/Custodial
- Ensure proper safety, cleanliness, care and maintenance of the retail sales floor, production area, building in general, vehicles, and all restrooms.
- Ensure that monthly safety inspections are conducted in accordance with Salvation Army Policy immediately notifying the BCM of any deficiencies and corrective action taken.
- Order any supplies needed to perform daily operations.
Physical Requirements
- Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead for duties such as stocking store shelves.
- Operate cash register.
- Operate telephone.
- Operate a desktop or laptop computer.
- Lift up to 35 lbs.
- Access and produce information from a computer.
- Understand and produce written information.
- Operate a motor vehicle.
