GameStop Store Managers oversee all store operations and drive performance by fostering a sales culture centered on the company’s buy, sell, trade, and reservation model. This role ensures outstanding guest service, supervises retail staff, and maintains a clean, organized shopping environment to meet or exceed sales and profit goals.
Responsibilities
- Manage and lead store operations in a multi-unit capacity, modeling best-in-class guest service by greeting guests, addressing questions or concerns, and assisting with their gaming needs.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual merchandising, sales initiatives, and guest relationships to drive repeat business.
- Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, ensuring top-notch service during every transaction.
- Respond to guest inquiries in person or by phone with professionalism and courtesy.
- Promote GameStop’s guest benefits, such as the new title reservations program, trade-in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
- Recruit, interview, hire, assess, develop, and retain high-performing associates, ensuring they complete onboarding, training, and compliance before working shifts independently.
- Communicate regularly with store associates and the District Manager to implement GameStop initiatives according to plan.
- Set guest service expectations, train associates on job responsibilities, policies, and procedures, and supervise tasks delegated to Sales Associates, Retail Keyholders, and Assistant Store Managers.
- Schedule store associates while adhering to guidelines, ensuring coverage for breaks, meals, and optimal guest service.
- Approve payroll, manage paid time off, and verify accurate payment for all hours worked.
- Provide timely performance feedback and recognition to associates, documenting written feedback in the HR system.
- Maintain a clean, organized store, including restrooms, fixtures, and equipment, ensuring merchandise is stocked, displayed, and alphabetized.
- Fulfill and ship Omni-Channel orders daily and perform inventory counts for the home store and other district/region locations.
- Protect company assets through inventory control, loss prevention, scam awareness, and safety best practices, including conducting visual inspections of associates’ belongings when necessary.
- Lead the store team in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals, completing required administrative and operational tasks to achieve objectives.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily transaction totals in the POS system, ensuring accurate closeout paperwork and bank deposits.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies, record them in the POS system, and conduct merchandise counts or inventories as needed.
- Process defectives, recalls, and stock pulls accurately, ensuring proper labeling and packing lists.
- Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety, addressing hazardous situations and reporting injuries per company guidelines.
- Keep store records and files organized, ensuring manuals are up to date.
- For stores on military bases, form professional partnerships with military personnel, including the Supply Base Leader.
- Adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
Requirements
- Proof of identity and eligibility to work legally in the United States.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or a related field preferred.
- At least 1 year of retail management experience required; 3+ years of retail sales, guest service, or leadership experience preferred.
- Video game knowledge preferred.

- Clear verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team, meeting performance expectations for attendance, appearance, safety, and workplace respect.
- Proficiency in operating a Point-of-Sale (POS) system and basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, currency).
- Ability to complete paperwork accurately and follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
- Strong financial acumen to execute tasks in accordance with company policy.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, managing pressure and adapting to stressful situations without impacting guest interactions.
- Reliability, trustworthiness, and sound judgment.
- Ability to work alone and stand or move throughout the store for up to 12 hours per day.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, crouch, balance, stretch, reach, climb ladders, and lift merchandise up to 30 lbs. from ground level to a minimum height of 4 feet.
- For stores on military bases, ability to acquire a working understanding of military ranks and insignia during employment onboarding.
Schedule
- 40 hours per week, with flexibility to work extended hours/days as necessary, including nights, weekends, some holidays, and occasional overtime.
Pay
$16–$24 per hour (certain state-specific exceptions may apply).
