About the Role

A Store Manager oversees the daily operations of a store, ensuring smooth and effective functioning. The role involves directing all activities required to achieve or exceed goals, including sales, profit objectives, customer service, human resources, payroll, operating expenses, loss prevention, and merchandise presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Experience
    • Serve as a role model, ensuring customers remain the top priority.
    • Respond to all customer complaints or needs.
    • Achieve excellent scores on secret shopper reports.
    • Promote merchandise, demonstrate product knowledge, and assist customers with requests.
  • Revenue Generation
    • Share vision and execute store strategy in alignment with corporate and district initiatives.
    • Achieve store financial objectives, including sales goals, comp store increases, sales per square foot, expense control, units per transaction, payroll percent, and shrinkage.
    • Educate the store team on business reports, trends, and inventory opportunities.
    • Analyze business reports consistently and develop strategies to maximize financial performance.
  • Operational Responsibilities
    • Prioritize workflow through successful planning and time management.
    • Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on business trends and payroll guidelines.
    • Understand and comply with all company policies, procedures, and operations.
    • Maintain the physical appearance and cleanliness of the store.
    • Analyze problems, generate solutions, and recognize opportunities for improvement.
    • Ensure compliance with all company-assigned training.
    • Convey company expectations clearly to the team.
    • Protect company assets, including inventory, cash, store fixturing, and other property.
    • Communicate loss prevention occurrences to the District Manager, Market Manager, and Loss Prevention Manager.
    • Practice excellent customer service to prevent theft.
    • Review and audit store processes, transactions, and paperwork for compliance.
    • Supervise, lead, and motivate staff members.
  • Visual, Brand, and Product Management
    • Ensure execution of all pricing strategies to achieve gross margin.
    • Merchandise the store according to visual guidelines and hold teams accountable to company standards.
    • Communicate store inventory opportunities to the District Manager or Market Manager.
    • Plan and execute store planograms in a timely manner.
    • Ensure the store team understands the company’s brand position.
    • Replenish merchandise on the selling floor as needed.
    • Instruct and participate in visual merchandising standards and directives set by the company.
  • People Responsibilities
    • Ensure all Perry Ellis International customer service standards are met and modeled.
    • Adhere to Human Resources standards and general practices.
    • Recruit, select, hire, and develop diverse talent for the store.
    • Fill open positions with qualified candidates within 30 days and maintain a talent pool.
    • Assess, develop, educate, mentor, and provide timely feedback and coaching.
    • Hold the store team accountable for achieving results.
    • Manage conflict and empower the team in the decision-making process.
    • Lead by taking calculated risks and managing through change and adversity.
    • Maintain confidentiality and meet commitments.
    • Ensure all store associates adhere to federal, state, and local labor laws.

Requirements

  • Human Resources: Proven ability to network, maintain a talent pool for recruitment, select and develop store management teams, coach, counsel, and persuasively argue a point of view.
  • Customer Service: Ability to function as a role model, prioritize customers, and respond empathetically to customer needs.
  • Organization: Ability to organize, delegate, prioritize, meet deadlines, and hold the team accountable.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to challenge and motivate teams in an atmosphere of mutual respect while supporting core values.
  • Merchandising: Knowledge of visual presentation standards and ability to implement planograms.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Business Analysis: Ability to analyze business trends and function within payroll, shortage, and controllable expenses to maximize performance and profitability.
  • 3-5 years of retail management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills; outgoing, friendly, and personable with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to stand for long periods on the sales floor and move/lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
