About the Role
A Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a store, ensuring it runs smoothly and effectively. The role involves directing all activities required to achieve or exceed goals, including sales, profit objectives, customer service, human resources, payroll, operating expenses, loss prevention, and merchandise presentation.
Responsibilities
- Customer Experience
- Serve as a role model, ensuring customers remain the top priority.
- Respond to all customer complaints or needs.
- Achieve excellent scores on secret shopper reports.
- Promote merchandise, demonstrate product knowledge, and assist customers with requests.
- Revenue Generation
- Align store strategy with corporate and district initiatives.
- Achieve financial objectives, including sales goals, comp store increases, sales per square foot, expense control, units per transaction, payroll percent, and shrinkage.
- Educate the store team on business reports, trends, and inventory opportunities.
- Analyze business reports and develop strategies to maximize financial performance.
- Operational Responsibilities
- Prioritize workflow through planning and time management.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on business trends and payroll guidelines.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and operations.
- Maintain the physical appearance and cleanliness of the store.
- Analyze problems, generate solutions, and ensure compliance with company training.
- Protect company assets, including inventory, cash, and store fixturing.
- Communicate loss prevention occurrences to the District Manager, Market Manager, and Loss Prevention Manager.
- Prevent theft through excellent customer service.
- Review and audit store processes, transactions, and paperwork for compliance.
- Supervise, lead, and motivate staff members.
- Visual, Brand, and Product Management
- Execute pricing strategies to achieve gross margin.
- Ensure the store is merchandised according to visual guidelines and company standards.
- Communicate store inventory opportunities to the District Manager or Market Manager.
- Plan and execute store planograms in a timely manner.
- Ensure the store team understands the company’s brand position.
- Replenish merchandise on the selling floor as needed.
- Instruct and participate in visual merchandising standards set by the company.
- People Responsibilities
- Ensure all customer service standards are met and modeled.
- Adhere to Human Resources standards and general practices.
- Recruit, select, hire, and develop diverse talent for the store.
- Fill open positions with qualified candidates within 30 days and maintain a talent pool.
- Assess, develop, educate, mentor, and provide feedback and coaching to the team.
- Hold the store team accountable for achieving results.
- Manage conflict and empower the team in decision-making.
- Foster open dialogue and receptiveness to feedback.
- Lead by taking calculated risks and managing through change.
- Ensure all store associates adhere to federal, state, and local labor laws.
Requirements
- Human Resources: Proven ability to network, maintain a talent pool, recruit, develop teams, and provide coaching and counseling.
- Customer Service: Ability to serve as a role model, prioritize customers, and respond empathetically to customer needs.
- Organization: Ability to organize, delegate, prioritize, meet deadlines, and hold the team accountable.
- Leadership: Proven ability to challenge and motivate teams in an atmosphere of mutual respect while supporting core values.
- Merchandising: Knowledge of visual presentation standards and ability to implement planograms.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Business Analysis: Ability to analyze business trends and manage payroll, shortage, and controllable expenses to maximize performance.
Additional requirements include:
- Ability to perform effective selling techniques.
- Energetic and positive attitude.
- 3-5 years of retail management experience.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
- BS degree is a plus.
