About the Role

Employee will perform a variety of unskilled duties and assist others in the performance of duties of a more skilled nature related to the operation and maintenance of the gas compressor station.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules, procedures, and practices.
• Report to assigned locations for training and actively participate in training activities.
• Carry out assignments in training for and/or performing fire fighting and first aid.
• Demonstrate competency in activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections via performance of job duties and training/testing programs.
• Report any damaged or defective equipment or conditions that may cause damage or injury.
• Perform duties of higher classifications incidental to the job and within capabilities, including training for higher classifications.
• Maintain clean and orderly equipment, tools, materials, and work areas.
• Report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
• Perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
• Compile information and generate reports, forms, and documents as required.
• Represent the Company to the community with attention to high standards of conduct, appearance, and attitude.

Specific Duties

• Operate Company vehicles.
• Perform ground and facilities maintenance duties.
• Assist in pipefitting duties, including cleaning, measuring, cutting, threading, and fitting pipe.
• Perform painting and insulating of structures, piping, and equipment.
• Perform manual labor duties, including digging, backfilling, loading, and unloading supplies, pipe, materials, and equipment.
• Learn plant emergency procedures and the blow-down system.
• Learn to take readings and calculate gas flows.
• Learn to use various maps and drawings associated with the compressor station.
• Learn various codes, rules, regulations, and procedures pertaining to gas compressor station operations.
• Learn and assist in the use of cutting and welding equipment for shop-type welding on non-coded rated facilities.
• Learn and understand lockout/tagout procedures.
• Assist in operating gas compressor equipment, including reciprocating engines, turbines, air compressors, boilers, pumps, fans, safety devices, valves, air wrenches, and hydraulic lubricant guns.
• Perform and assist in taking readings and maintaining logs related to gas compressor operations such as temperatures, speeds, and pressures.
• Learn to recognize possible malfunctions in gas compressor engines, purification, dehydration, and auxiliary equipment through sight and sound, and report to proper personnel.
• Assist in performing preventive maintenance on engines, purification, dehydration, and auxiliary equipment, such as adding water, oil, and grease.
• Assist in making minor and major repairs on gas compressor engines, purification, dehydration, and associated equipment.
• Assist in operating compressor engines, purification, dehydration, and auxiliary equipment in response to changing flows, pressures, temperatures, and levels.
• Assist in taking and calculating readings associated with purification and dehydration equipment, such as Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) and Moisture or Dew Point (H2O) readings.
• Assist in corrosion control methods, including cleaning, priming, coating, and wrapping pipe, and installing insulated couplers, flanges, anodes, and corrosion coupons.
• Assist in installing, removing, and maintaining gas services, including tapping tees, couplers, valves, miscellaneous fittings, and curb boxes.
• Assist in field duties such as erecting and maintaining pipeline warning signs, drip blowing, repairing gas pipeline leaks, and chart changing.
• Assist in patrolling pipelines to detect leaks, risks, and the condition of pipeline rights-of-way.
• Attend, perform, and support hazardous waste training if requested.
• Handle, transport, and manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
• Assist in the operation and minor maintenance of field gas compressors.
• Assist in the maintenance and construction of gas wells, including operating casing elevators, cleaning casing threads, spinning or making up casing, and using chain tongs.
• Assist in well gauging duties.
• Perform sampling of various liquids and wastes associated with Gas Storage operations, including labeling and maintaining files and records.
• Learn to operate and maintain equipment such as air compressors, backhoes, loaders, grass cutting equipment, forklifts, tractors, chain saws, water pumps, needle scalers, paint sprayers, air wrenches, hydraulic lubricant guns, grinders, and miscellaneous hand tools.
• Maintain adequate supplies on Company vehicles and in stores.
• Assist and perform duties of blowing and pumping drips, including following proper disposal procedures.
• Be on a rotating shift schedule for part or all of the year; no vacations allowed during the Withdrawal season.

Requirements

• Meet all general qualifications of employment and all qualifications required by Federal, State, and Municipal regulations.
• Speak, understand, read, and write English, and understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Education or knowledge equivalent to satisfactory completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to learn to use tools and equipment required in the work.
• Willingness to become familiar with and comply with Company Safety Rules.
• Possess a valid state driver’s license and ability to operate Company vehicles, including those with manual transmissions.
• Ability to obtain a CDL during the classification period.
• Willingness to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
• Willingness to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
• Good health and ability to perform physical requirements of the job, including work at heights and heavy manual labor.
• Willingness and ability to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classification.
• Ability to communicate through both verbal and written reports.
• Ability to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
• Willingness to carry through work assignments and encourage cooperation and satisfactory work from others.
• Successfully complete entry-level testing programs measuring job-responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem-solving skills.
• Regular attendance is essential.
• Capability of wearing respirator equipment.

Special Qualifications

• Ability to perform simple arithmetic functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
• Ability to communicate by radio/telephone using proper procedures.
• Willingness to work with high-pressure gas that may or may not contain Hydrogen Sulfide.
• Learn to navigate the MAXIMO and/or current Work Order system.

Work Conditions

• Exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain, loud equipment noises, and odors.
• Frequent driving and walking.
• May require working at heights up to 50 feet.

Physical Efforts

• Ability to lift 60 lbs. from the ground to a height of 30 inches and from waist level to chest on a routine basis.
• Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical/inclined ladders unassisted on a weekly basis.
• Perform hand manipulations extended from the body for sustained periods on a weekly basis.
• Work with hands typically involves opening and closing valves.
