About the role
This position is responsible for the design, architecture, deployment, and management of HPE storage solutions, with a primary focus on HPE 3PAR and Alletra platforms. The role requires deep technical expertise in SAN storage, fabric administration, and performance optimization within a mission-critical enterprise environment. You will lead technical discussions, act as an escalation point for complex incidents, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to ensure storage solutions align with business requirements and availability standards.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and deploy HPE 3PAR and Alletra storage solutions based on customer business, performance, and availability requirements.
- Lead technical discussions with customers and internal stakeholders to understand workload needs and propose optimal storage designs.
- Manage 3PAR/Alletra arrays including CPGs, virtual volumes, VLUNs, host sets, and port configurations.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) for complex storage, SAN, and performance issues.
- Plan and execute storage migrations using Peer Motion, Online Import, and host-based migration tools with minimal downtime.
- Administer and troubleshoot SAN fabrics (Brocade/Cisco) including zoning, ISLs, firmware upgrades, and fabric resiliency.
- Optimize storage performance and efficiency through RAID selection, tiering, chunklet layout, and adaptive optimization.
- Implement and manage replication and DR solutions such as Remote Copy, Peer Persistence, and metro cluster configurations.
- Integrate storage with virtualization and OS platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Linux, Windows) and resolve multipathing issues.
- Manage firmware, OS, and controller upgrades ensuring non-disruptive operations and rollback readiness.
- Leverage HPE InfoSight and SSMC for proactive monitoring, capacity forecasting, and health analysis.
- Coordinate with backup teams and customers to integrate storage with Commvault / NetBackup for application-consistent backups.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers on storage architecture, performance analysis, and solution proposals.
- Provide regular operational and executive-level reports covering capacity utilization, performance trends, risks, and recommendations.
- Act as escalation point for critical production incidents and major outages.
- Collaborate with application, database, network, and virtualization teams to align storage design with end-to-end solutions.
- Ensure security, compliance, and governance through encryption, RBAC, audit logging, and best-practice controls.
- Automate and standardize storage operations using CLI, REST APIs, and scripting to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Mentor L1/L2 engineers and review change requests, SOPs, and implementation plans.
- Participate in CAB meetings, customer reviews, and vendor engagements (HPE) while supporting 24/7 mission-critical environments.
Requirements
- In-depth understanding of HPE Alletra, HP 3PAR, and Nimble storage components and architectures.
- Hands-on experience with storage array migrations.
- Experience in SAN storage backup and recovery and exposure to SAN data replication tools.
- Experience on Cisco and Brocade fabric switches/directors, including configuring new switches, upgrades, zoning, VSAN, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with SAN allocation and deallocation.
- Good knowledge of RAID concepts, inline data deduplication, and inline data compression.
- Dynamic LUN provisioning, zoning, and storage firmware upgrades.
- Allocating boot LUNs in VMware environments.
- Troubleshooting storage-related and compatibility-related issues.
- Allocating LUNs to different operating systems: MS Windows, VMWare ESX/ESXi, Linux, Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX.
- Exposure to performance tuning techniques for SAN and NAS.
- Experience in handling major incident bridges and critical issues.
- Proficiency in scripting and automating standard storage procedures.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes.
