Stockroom Assistant

About the role

The Chemistry Department Research Stockroom is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented individual to assist the Stockroom Supervisor with daily stockroom operations.

Responsibilities

• Receiving and distributing packages and supplies
• Maintaining inventory records
• Assisting with ordering and stocking materials
• Supporting faculty, staff, and students with stockroom-related needs

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to accurately maintain records and perform routine mathematical calculations
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn university systems and software
• Demonstrated ability to read, write legibly, weigh, and measure
• Ability to safely lift, move, and transport stockroom materials and packages
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and provide good customer service to faculty, staff, and students

Qualifications

• Education, training, or coursework in chemistry or laboratory sciences (preferred)
• Experience with Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel (preferred)
• Knowledge of chemical storage, handling, and laboratory safety practices (preferred)
• Experience with inventory management, shipping/receiving, stockroom, warehouse, retail, or laboratory support operations (preferred)
• Experience maintaining inventory records, spreadsheets, requisitions, invoices, or shipping logs (preferred)
• Experience loading, unloading, and transporting materials in a safe manner (preferred)
• Familiarity with HokieMart or similar purchasing/inventory systems (preferred)
• Experience operating equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and handtrucks (preferred)

Pay

$24,500 - $30,000 (commensurate with experience)

Schedule

Regular 32-hour-per-week benefited position with a primarily daytime weekday schedule
