About the role

Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while unloading product, stocking shelves, replenishing, and rotating product. Primarily responsible for stocking Grocery, Dairy, Frozen, Meat, HBC, and Wine & Spirits, plus other store areas as needed.

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, and Center Store Manager.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner throughout the store.
• Assists customers by:
  • Escorting them to products
  • Securing out-of-reach items
  • Loading or unloading heavy items
  • Noting and passing along customer suggestions or requests
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Unloads trucks, opens containers, stocks shelves, runs overstock on risers, and rotates product.
• Labels all product containers in backroom and storage areas with the date received.
• Tags shelves with overstock in the back room and understock drawers.
• Monitors for mis-picked items, reviews product outs, and identifies wrong deliveries.
• Organizes stock for efficiency, cleans, and restocks damaged items.
• Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines on personal hygiene and dress.
• Operates a cash register to complete customer transactions, including bagging and handling tender/coupons.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service to customers who call.
• Performs outside maintenance: shoveling snow, spreading ice melt, and retrieving carts.
• Stocks supplies, cigarettes, front-end sacks, and delivers supplies to departments.
• Assists store management with displays, decorations for promotions, and special events.
• Cleans registers, restrooms, breakroom, backroom, sweeps and mops floors, and tends to supply needs.
• Performs other job-related duties, assists in other store areas, and works on special projects as needed.

Requirements

• Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing.
• Less than high school education or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to perform very heavy work, exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
• Visual requirements include near and far vision (less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet) with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
• Must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Exposure to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazards, chemicals/solvents, temperature extremes, and potential electrical shock.
