STIPEND OPPORTUNITY: Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SY26-27)
Overview
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has identified a national shortage of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in schools. ASHA’s 2023 report on ASHA-Certified SLP-to-Population Ratios indicates 60.8 SLPs per 100,000 U.S. residents. In 2024, 78.5% of ASHA Schools Survey respondents reported job openings for clinicians exceeded job seekers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 18% employment growth for SLPs from 2023 to 2033, much faster than average. ASHA’s “SLP Health Care Survey Report: Workforce Trend” notes more jobs than job seekers, with the New England region particularly impacted in 2023.
