About the role
The Steward Coordinator, Janitorial position is available for the Austral Summer (Summer 2026-2027) at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. This role is directly responsible for supervising janitor staff and managing their tasks, schedules, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Tasking and overseeing day-to-day activities of Lead Janitors and Janitors to ensure thorough completion of assigned tasks.
- Setting pre-season expectations and conducting post-season evaluations of Lead Janitors and Janitors.
- Managing scheduling of Lead Janitors and Janitors and assisting with applicable duties.
- Tracking physical conditions of staff and adjusting tasking as needed.
- Filling in for janitorial cleaning runs or in the laundry facility as needed.
- Completing room inspections for departing residents and coordinating linen runs.
- Organizing special projects and reporting weekly on janitorial tasks.
- Conducting inventories and placing/tracking work orders.
- Researching cleaning products and ensuring proper usage.
- Participating in MCI training and drills.
- Determining janitorial supply needs and updating the manual.
- Handling on-call lock-out duties and late night calls.
- Handling confidential matters in accordance with management policy.
- Interacting professionally with National Science Foundation, military, and other agency officials.
- Implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program.
- Supporting the achievement of all metrics related to Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation (GSC).
- Ensuring compliance with GSC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
- Performing other duties as required.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of three years work experience in a custodial, housekeeping, or hotel-related industry.
- One year supervisory experience required.
- Basic computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- A current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica.
- A valid driver's license is required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted on lieu of minimum experience.
- US citizenship or permanent residency is required.
