Stevedoring Utility
About the role
The primary responsibility of this role is to operate the winch to shift barges during loading and unloading operations. Additional duties include maintaining rolling stock, inspecting and servicing winches, and performing various maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
- Operate winch to shift barges during loading and unloading operations.
- Maintain rolling stock (excavators, pay loaders, dozers, front-end loaders, forklift, etc.).
- Inspect and service winches, rolling stock, slings, straps, and shackles.
- Absorb and assist mechanic with repairs of equipment on deck.
- Grease snatch blocks, check oil levels, and perform other maintenance tasks.
- Wash the derrick barge, including cleaning surfaces, decks, equipment, and machinery.
- Paint the boom, railings, deck structures, and other equipment.
- Perform clamshell bucket lockout and PM servicing.
- Perform various maintenance duties, such as moving office furniture, supplies, equipment, and machines; cutting grass and weed eating the grounds.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with all safety procedures, rules, and regulations; including proper handling of separate waste streams.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: None required.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of applicable software.
- Basic knowledge or ability to quickly learn the operation and maintenance of assigned equipment.
- Basic knowledge or ability to quickly learn the occupational hazards of the work and of necessary safety precautions for the safe operation of assigned equipment.
- Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Able to complete documentation requirements.
- Able to follow direction and troubleshoot problems.
- Able to work well independently and within a team environment.
- Able to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.
- Able to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
- Strong ability to multi-task with exceptional attention to detail.
- Able to take direction from management, trainers, and other departments.
Qualifications
- Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs. – 100 occasionally.
- Ability to sit continuously on an air-cushioned seat.
- Ability to stand and walk constantly/continuously on various surfaces.
- Ability to lift from ground level to overhead or at waist level, depending on activity.
- Ability to reach forward constantly/continuously and handle levers, hand tools, and other equipment as necessary.
- Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, bend and kneel, occasionally.
- Ability to perform work in confined spaces and significant heights.
- Ability to understand and communicate verbally and/or by signaling, in person and over two-way radio.
- Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Able to perform work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work around/on deep water; where applicable.
- Ability to work in an environment with high dust levels around.
- Ability to meet requirements of PFT and fit testing, when applicable.
- Ability to meet requirements of and utilize all applicable PPE (e.g. hardhat, steel-toed boots, life vest), when applicable.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
- Uses near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, accommodation (adjusting focus between varied distances quickly), color discrimination, and field of vision for tasks.
