Sterile Processing Technician I
About the role
Performs technical functions of reprocessing, decontamination, disinfection, preparation, packaging, sterilization and distribution of reusable medical instrumentation, and handling/storage of disposable sterile supplies and accurately documents in compliance with FDA, CDC, AAMI, and JCAHO.
Operates large high vacuum steam sterilizers, Paracetic Acid sterililizers, and Hydorgen Peroxoide Plasma sterilizers. Utilizes computer software for inventory tracking, materials management, biological documentation, and the associated computer hardware.
Act as resource for Operating Room and other health care professionals for various sterilization and instrument care methods.
Responsibilities
- Performs technical functions of reprocessing, decontamination, disinfection, preparation, packaging, sterilization and distribution of reusable medical instrumentation, and handling/storage of disposable sterile supplies and accurately documents in compliance with FDA, CDC, AAMI, and JCAHO.
- Operates large high vacuum steam sterilizers, Paracetic Acid sterililizers, and Hydorgen Peroxoide Plasma sterilizers.
- Utilizes computer software for inventory tracking, materials management, biological documentation, and the associated computer hardware.
- Act as resource for Operating Room and other health care professionals for various sterilization and instrument care methods.
Requirements
- Must have understanding of basic microbiology and its application to Biological and Chemical Monitoring of sterilizers and decontaminators.
- Must have basic understanding of applied physics as it relates to the various methods of steam, plasma and liquid sterilization and its affects on various plastics composition and metallurgy.
- Must have advanced knowledge of Infection Control practices and how it relates to patient and employ safety.
- Must posses knowledge of typical chemical agents utilized in a SP department and their intended uses.
- Must have ability to retain knowledge of vast inventory of complicated surgical instruments and determine methods of decontamination and sterilization as recommended by manufacture.
- Must have working knowledge of Open Case Cart system and distribution of sterile materials throughout the health system.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma Graduate or Equivalent
- 1 Year job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Sterilzation
