Sterile Processing Technician Central Services & Supply SCH

Full-time position (1.0 FTE) in the ACE Associates bargaining unit. Non-exempt from overtime.

Schedule

Evening shift with weekend and holiday rotation: Monday–Friday 2 pm–10 pm, weekends & holidays 12 pm–8 pm.

About the Role

Responsible for the washing and decontamination of instruments and equipment, equipment retrieval, set-up, testing, and distribution/retrieval of instruments from OR & L&D. Handles house, general, and specialty tray assembly, wrapping, and sterilization. Operates reprocessing equipment, documents cycles, and performs quality assurance. Manages exchange cart, par level cart, case cart, and specialty cart inventory and set-up, as well as in-stock inventory.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Successfully pass a nationally accredited central service exam and hold/maintain one of the following credentials:
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST),
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or
  • A substantially equivalent credential (as determined by the Hospital).
• Six (6) months experience in processing/sterilization required.
• All hires and transfers must complete ten (10) hours of CEU credits annually (January 1–December 31).

If no applicants meet the above criteria, the following will be considered:

• High School diploma or equivalent plus one of the following:
  • Successfully completed a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technology and holds/maintains a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential, or
  • Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
• Must complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education annually to remain qualified as a surgical technologist.
• No experience in processing/sterilization required.
• All hires and transfers must complete ten (10) hours of CEU credits annually (January 1–December 31).

If no applicants meet the above criteria, the following will be considered:

• High School diploma or equivalent plus graduate of an accredited college with completion of a Sterile Processing Technician Certification program.
• Incumbent has eighteen (18) months from hire date to obtain CRCST or CSPDT credential; failure to meet/maintain this standard results in termination.
• No experience required.
• All hires and transfers must complete ten (10) hours of CEU credits annually (January 1–December 31).

If no applicants meet the above criteria, the following will be considered:

• High School diploma or equivalent plus evidence of employment as a central service technician for a cumulative period of one year between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2014 (“grandfathered” under the Law).
• All hires and transfers must complete ten (10) hours of CEU credits annually (January 1–December 31).

If no applicants meet the above criteria, the following will be considered:

• High School diploma or equivalent plus current college student or intern enrolled in a healthcare-associated program (e.g., Sterile Processing, Surgical Technician).
• Incumbent has eighteen (18) months from hire date to obtain CRCST or CSPDT credential; failure to meet/maintain this standard results in termination.
• No experience required.
• All hires and transfers must complete ten (10) hours of CEU credits annually (January 1–December 31).

Skills

• Ability to identify general instruments.
• Physical demands: lifting trays, walking, standing for extended periods, operating equipment, pushing/pulling carts, reading, writing, and communication.
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office) helpful.
