About the role

This position involves receiving, cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation, and supplies. It also includes disassembling, inspecting, assembling, and sterilizing surgical and house instrumentation, as well as restocking and staging case carts.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, decontaminates, assembles, and sterilizes all reusable patient care equipment according to departmental policy and procedure.
  • Operates sterilization and decontamination equipment safely and efficiently, requesting resources as needed.
  • Inspects, assembles, and sterilizes surgical and house instrumentation according to departmental policy and procedure.
  • Restocks case carts with supplies, instrumentation, and equipment based on a daily surgical schedule.
  • Restocks unexpired products for Surgical Services and specialty carts, including the Outpatient Services and Labor & Delivery supply carts.
  • Stages and delivers case carts, stocking carts, and equipment using a clean cart lift and clean OR service elevator.
  • Inventories and maintains adequate levels of all instrumentation and sterile supplies used.
  • Reports and records missing or damaged instrumentation/equipment in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for all departmental inquiries from customers, answering and responding to requests via phone and in person professionally.
  • Receives and returns unexpired items to inventory in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean, neat, and orderly fashion on a daily basis.
  • Cleans work area prior to the end of each shift to prepare for the incoming shift.
  • Attends regularly scheduled in-services and participates in cross-training for new surgical instrumentation and equipment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Must become registered within twelve (12) months of receiving course materials to become certified. Employees transferring between Sterile Processing and Endoscopy must be certified within the twelve (12) months of receiving course materials. Physical requirements include prolonged periods of standing and walking, lifting up to 60 pounds, and pushing loaded carts weighing in excess of 200 pounds. Visual and oral acuity, manual dexterity, and technical ability are necessary. Able to discern and distinguish colors. Work environment includes a high-stress setting and requires complete vision screening with a score of 20/40 or better.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Skills and Abilities

  • Understand and practice excellent personal hygiene.
  • Able to operate computer programs with training.
  • Demonstrate English verbal and written proficiency to utilize written high-level disinfection/sterilization guidelines.

Rotating weekends and holiday shifts are from 3pm to 11:30pm. Scheduled weekly hours are 40. Shift is Evening (United States of America).
