Sterile Processing Tech Specialist FT McAllen

About the Role

Manages the reprocessing cycle for surgical instrumentation, including disassembly, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, testing, assembly, packaging, labeling, high-level disinfection, and sterilization. Serves as a leader within the department who specializes in a specific complex area of Sterile Processing (SPD).

Responsibilities

  • Care for and operate ultrasonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and other equipment.
  • Complete quality monitoring and documentation.
  • Pick supplies and instruments to prepare case carts for surgery.
  • Perform quality assurance activities.
  • Assist with supply inventory management and clinic instrument rounds.
  • Mentor, train, coach, and role model for new Sterile Processing Technicians.
  • Perform all duties with a commitment to excellence in quality and customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of SPD experience as a certified SPD Technician.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Manual dexterity with the ability to assemble and disassemble complex instrumentation.
  • High School diploma, GED, or higher education required.
  • CRCST from IAHCSMM or equivalent professional SPD certification (CRCST or CSPDT) maintained for a minimum of two years prior to date of hire or promotion.
  • Certification must be maintained as a term of employment.

Skills

  • Computer skills: Various applications related to instrument management (Censis, OneSource), Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Technical skills: Interpretation of manufacturer’s Instructions For Use (IFU).
  • Additional SPD certifications desired.
