About the Role
Manages the reprocessing cycle for surgical instrumentation, including disassembly, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, testing, assembly, packaging, labeling, high-level disinfection, and sterilization. Serves as a leader within the department who specializes in a specific complex area of Sterile Processing (SPD).
Responsibilities
- Care for and operate ultrasonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and other equipment.
- Complete quality monitoring and documentation.
- Pick supplies and instruments to prepare case carts for surgery.
- Perform quality assurance activities.
- Assist with supply inventory management and clinic instrument rounds.
- Mentor, train, coach, and role model for new Sterile Processing Technicians.
- Perform all duties with a commitment to excellence in quality and customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum two years of SPD experience as a certified SPD Technician.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Manual dexterity with the ability to assemble and disassemble complex instrumentation.
- High School diploma, GED, or higher education required.
- CRCST from IAHCSMM or equivalent professional SPD certification (CRCST or CSPDT) maintained for a minimum of two years prior to date of hire or promotion.
- Certification must be maintained as a term of employment.
Skills
- Computer skills: Various applications related to instrument management (Censis, OneSource), Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Technical skills: Interpretation of manufacturer’s Instructions For Use (IFU).
- Additional SPD certifications desired.
