About the role
The Sterile Processing Technician III ensures the highest quality standards are met by departmental procedures and established industry standards. Assumes responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into their job performance.
Responsibilities
- Perform the disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and other equipment.
- Leak test, evaluate, clean/disinfect, and process flexible endoscopes.
- Inspect instrumentation for cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Assemble surgical instruments and kits utilizing kit assembly information.
- Packaging, wrapping, and preparing kit/instrument loads for sterilization.
- Loading, operating, monitoring, and completing documentation for all decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and monitoring equipment.
- Performing and documenting all chemical, mechanical, and biological monitoring of sterilizers and other equipment.
- Responding effectively to emergency case requirements of the surgical team and other departments.
- Absessing instruments, components, and supplies for adequate levels required for the assembly of kits, and requesting necessary replacements in a timely manner.
- Picking supplies and/or instruments for surgical cases utilizing surgeon specific preference cards.
- Stocking adult, pediatric and neonate code carts, intubation boxes.
- Functioning independently in the absence of the Manager or Supervisor.
- Utilizing a variety of computer systems.
- Assisting in the training of new staff and volunteers.
- Maintaining HIPPA standards.
- Assisting in the room setup for scopes and scopes' maintenance.
- Room set up to include opening rooms: OFP (scope flush), CO2, suction.
- Obtaining Clean Cart system and setting up scopes for the shift.
- Maintaining scopes in the closed, dry room that requires card access and access to the specialized drying closet.
- Loading scopes onto green covered trays to include scope and the Endo kits.
- Setting up scopes and signing on to computer and ProVation MD.
- Maintaining scopes and scopes' trays with patient stickers and Aegis one hour indicator stickers.
- Checking oral suction use with upper endoscopy.
- Disposing of empty water bottles with last scope of the day.
- Disposing of dirty cannisters and replacing.
- Flushing Environ-mate with Enzymatic solution daily followed by a liter of water.
- Flushing Environ-mate with bleach solution, followed by 2 liters of water, leaving the system and wall suction on, clamping suction tubing overnight once/week.
- Signed off computer and turned off monitor.
- Removing used blue gowns to the dirty utility room in the recovery room.
- Stocking rooms at the end of the day following par levels.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Experience: At least three (3) years of sterile processing experience required performing all Sterile Processing functions within an operative setting.
- Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Registered Central Service Technician (C.R.C.S.T) or Certified Sterile Process/Dist Tech (C.S.P.D.T) or equivalent required.
