Duties
- Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment
- Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, which include but are not limited to instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and procedures
- Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedure
- Perform the operation of the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures
- Inspect all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly
- Uses appropriate container, wrap or pouch according to the size of the instrument or equipment
- Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures
- Knows how to run tests on all sterilizers, monitors and documents that all parameters have been met
- Uses chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of chemical as well as chemical's function: knowledge of appropriate PPE is also necessary
- Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting the other members of the OR Team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary for the procedure in a timely manner
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution)
- Minimum of two (2) years of sterile processing experience, preferably in a hospital or surgical setting
