Sterile Processing Supervisor (evening shift)

Oversee daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to ensure efficient and effective reprocessing, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. Supervise staff, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and collaborate with other departments to support patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead Sterile Processing Department staff (60% of role).
• Manage instrument tracking system, provide training, and perform other duties (15% of role).
• Oversee assembly of surgical instruments and equipment (10% of role).
• Ensure proper sterilization processes (5% of role).
• Coordinate surgical case cart assembly (5% of role).
• Manage decontamination processes (5% of role).

Requirements

• At least five (5) years of recent experience in a Sterile Processing Unit or similar setting.
• CRCST certification from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or CSPDT from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
• Must obtain an advanced certification (e.g., CIS, CSIS, CER, CFER, CHL, CSPM) from HSPA or CBSPD within 6 months of hire.
• Must maintain certification through continuing education units (CEUs) and renewal as a condition of employment.
• High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent work experience/training).
• Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience adhering to AAMI recommended practices.
• Knowledge of AORN recommended practices for:
  • Care of instruments, scopes, and powered surgical instruments.
  • Cleaning and processing of instruments.
  • Selection and use of packaging materials.
  • Surgical attire and traffic patterns in surgical suites.
  • Operating room sanitation.
• Strong attention to detail, quality, and thoroughness in completing work accurately and on time.
• Independent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address issues with potential impact on patients, customers, and internal teams.
• Experience with Sterile Processing Unit programs, instrument tracking software, email, spreadsheets, and word processing.
• Ability to apply policies and procedures in decision-making.
• Ability to identify, analyze, and report problems accurately and promptly.

Department Overview

The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) supports over 40 operating rooms by cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation, flexible scopes, and assembling case carts. SPD also serves Patient Care Services, Ambulatory Services, and the Primary Care Network by reprocessing reusable equipment and surgical instruments. Additional responsibilities include restocking emergency crash carts, PAPR supply carts, first responder bags, airway boxes, and ICU transport bags. SPD manages fiscal, material, and human resources to coordinate surgical and patient care across the hospital and clinics.

Pay

Hourly salary range: $33.33 - $59.48.

Schedule

• Full-time (100% time).
• Shift: Monday through Friday, 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM.
• Location: Main Hospital (HSP001).
