About the role
The Sterile Processing Educator provides education, orientation, and ongoing in-services for the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) on all three shifts and weekend shifts when necessary. They also participate in the staff performance review process, ensuring competency and completion of required educational programs.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the staff performance review process, including providing feedback to management regarding competency and completion of required educational programs.
- Ensures that all staff complete annual competency review and that all new employees complete a new employee orientation within 90 days of hire.
- Captures reminders for weekly in-services for staff.
- Fulfills management direction and ensures that all SPD policies and procedures adhere to CMS, TJC, DHS, AAMI, and CDC standards.
- Maintains fiscal responsibility by ensuring all policies and procedures are followed.
- Maintains employee education files for staff and ensures documentation for proof of certification.
- Conducts an annual educational needs assessment, incorporating staff competency needs and performance improvement objectives defined by management.
- Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates both a new employee orientation and departmental orientation program for SPD staff.
- Serves as a mentor for all employees and models best practice according to AAMI standards.
- Serves as a liaison between SPD staff and other departments to design in-services, competencies, and orientation programs to meet the needs of staff.
- Trains staff on instrument tracking systems and ensures they perform routine tasks in a timely manner according to established standards.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and complete records pertaining to staff education.
- Aids in training on instrument tracking system.
- Maintains continued process improvements in the field of Central Sterile Processing Operations and Equipment through education, literature, and seminars.
Requirements
- Minimum of High School/GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience which includes knowledge of recommended sterile processing practices as advised by AAMI standards.
- A minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Valid Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST/CBSPDT) required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience in development of policies and procedures.
