About the Role

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts who is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care as set forth in the Nursing Department's Clinical Practice Manual. The registered nurse demonstrates initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills in caring for patients with complex needs and manages patients by assuming full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

For newly licensed nurses, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required. This position requires direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a plan of care for a specific patient assignment.
• Sets priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity and maintains continuity through clear and concise communication.
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of growth and development of adult, geriatric, and neonatal patients (where applicable).
• Documents patient care clearly, completely, and concisely in compliance with nursing documentation standards.
• Develops a comprehensive plan of care based on data from initial assessments, healthcare team input, and medical records.
• Creates and implements a comprehensive educational and discharge plan for patients and families, utilizing community resources.
• Evaluates and revises the plan of care to achieve desired outcomes.
• Participates in unit-based and organizational quality management and improvement programs.
• Provides a safe environment for patients, staff, family, and visitors, adhering to infection control and universal precautions.
• Administers medication and performs nursing procedures safely and efficiently.
• Uses equipment safely and demonstrates awareness of potential risks.
• Collaborates with other disciplines and interacts professionally with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Develops, utilizes, and evaluates unit-specific standards of care and upholds the A.N.A. code of ethics.
• Participates in determining and implementing unit goals and objectives and serves on unit-based and organizational committees.
• Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth by identifying learning needs and participating in educational programs.
• Shares knowledge and experience with colleagues and seeks guidance for additional learning needs.
• Utilizes nursing research findings in clinical practice and supports nursing and medical research endeavors.
• Manages time, materials, and resources effectively to support cost-effective healthcare delivery.
• Assesses patient acuity accurately for staffing, transfers, and assignments, demonstrating budgetary awareness.
• Participates in the orientation of new staff, students, and others, and provides input into clinical evaluations as appropriate.
• Assumes responsibility for the unit in the absence of leadership personnel and adheres to hospital and nursing policies.
• Recommends changes to policies and procedures and participates in cooperative efforts for the smooth running of the unit.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration in Massachusetts.
• For newly licensed nurses, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required.
• Stepdown medicine experience preferred.
• Able to work weekend rotation per the MNA contract.
• Membership in professional organizations is recommended, and certification in a specialty area is encouraged.

Schedule

Scheduled weekly hours: 36. Work shift: Night (United States of America).

Pay

Pay range: $41.71 - $105.65/hourly (Grade MNA333).

Work Location

Onsite at 75 Francis Street.
