About the role

The Stevens Technical Enrichment Program (STEP) is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Ethics Course Instructor for its Bridge summer program. Bridge helps support incoming first-year students as they begin their transition to Stevens, introducing them to the academic expectations of Stevens’ undergraduate study while helping them begin to develop academic, social, and support networks.

Responsibilities

  • Design and present a syllabus which will introduce the students to the principles of bioethics and ethical decision-making.
  • Guide students in applying analytical tools to evaluate real-world scenarios, including those related to STEM and business contexts, and in considering how those principles apply to their academic and personal lives.
  • Incorporate weekly lectures, homework assignments, and group projects into the course.
  • Assign at least two undergraduates who will serve as in-class assistants, liaisons, and peer-tutors outside of the classroom.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ethics, preferably with experience teaching in higher education. They should also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • A Master's degree in Bioethics, Philosophy, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching ethics courses at the college level.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Be able to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic learning environment.
  • Have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Benefits

The Ethics Course Instructor will be compensated according to the Stevens Institute of Technology’s compensation range, which is $1,666.66 - $1,666.66 per semi-monthly period. The final salary will be determined based on departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials.

Pay

The semi-monthly base range for this position is $1,666.66 - $1,666.66.

Schedule

The Ethics Course Instructor will be expected to teach one course during the summer Bridge program, typically lasting approximately 8 weeks.
