Step 2: Join The University of Akron IEEE Chapter

The IEEE University of Akron Chapter is blended (graduate and undergraduate) student organization dedicated to helping principally electrical and computer engineering majors make a confident, informed transition from the classroom to industry. This organization is open to students from any other major who are interested in a career in technology. Our purpose is to create a campus-based professional network that complements technical learning with career-readiness skills. We Will Accomplish This By Inviting industry professionals to share first-hand insights on roles ranging from power-systems engineer to embedded-software designer—detailing career paths, required skills, and workplace expectations. Leveraging IEEE resources such as regional section meetings, student conferences, virtual technical talks, scholarships, and the IEEE Collabratec mentoring platform to broaden students’ horizons beyond campus. Establish and maintain professional development programming, connecting members into existing résumé-review clinics, mock-interview panels, and soft-skills sessions offered through IEEE and UA Career Services—augmenting these resources with the practical insight of our student leadership. Maintaining an alumni network so members retain lifelong connections for job leads and collaboration after graduation.
