About the role

This position involves instructing assigned classes, planning a program of study, creating a classroom environment, guiding the learning process, employing various instructional techniques, assessing student achievements, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times
  • Plans a program of study meeting individual student needs, interests, and abilities
  • Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals
  • Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with physical limitations and student capabilities
  • Strives to implement the district's philosophy of education and performance expectations
  • Achieves student learning through regular assessments and progress reports
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Determines and addresses the learning challenges of students
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Enforces a code of conduct for the classroom consistent with established administrative policies
  • Supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and makes written evaluations as required
  • Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth
  • Participates in the contractually approved teacher evaluation process
  • Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making
  • Attends traditional school sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and the faculty
  • Contributes to decisions made by the district and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being
  • Maintains professional competence

Requirements

  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area
  • Appropriate content/program area educator license (History) and grade level (5-8) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years
