About the role

The Springfield Public Schools seeks a dedicated educator to join our team. This position involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a curriculum that meets individual student needs, creating a supportive learning environment, and assessing student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that addresses the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Uses various instructional techniques and media, considering physical constraints and student capabilities.
  • Strives to implement the district's educational philosophy and performance expectations through instruction and actions.
  • Affirms student learning achievements regularly, providing progress reports as required, and communicating with parents as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records and diagnoses learning challenges, seeking specialized assistance when necessary.
  • Takes necessary precautions to ensure safety and follows the school's code of conduct.
  • Supervises paraprofessionals and evaluates their work as required.
  • Maintains a continuous professional development plan that meets district requirements and personal goals.
  • Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutually agreed-upon outcomes.
  • Attends building and district meetings to facilitate communication and decision-making.
  • Supports school-sponsored activities and contributes to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Qualifications

  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area and appropriate educator license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license; or Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
