Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Review purchase requisitions and determine appropriate sourcing and procurement strategies.
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on cost, quality, capacity, reliability, and service.
- Communicate with suppliers to obtain pricing, availability, lead times, delivery schedules, and product or service information.
- Source and purchase steel and other metal materials that meet company specifications and production requirements.
- Monitor market conditions and estimate material values based on current pricing trends and industry knowledge.
- Determine the appropriate procurement method, including direct purchase, request for quote, bid, or contract negotiation.
- Prepare purchase orders, bid requests, and related procurement documentation.
- Review supplier proposals and negotiate pricing, terms, contracts, and delivery commitments within established budgetary guidelines.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including materials purchased, costs, delivery performance, quality results, and inventory-related information.
- Partner with quality, production, engineering, and other internal teams to resolve material, delivery, or supplier performance issues.
- Address defective or unacceptable goods and services with suppliers and internal stakeholders, and support corrective action as needed.
- Review and approve invoices for payment in accordance with company procedures.
- Expedite delivery of materials to support production schedules and customer commitments.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships that support quality, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement goals.
- Travel as needed to supplier locations, trade shows, industry events, or other business-related meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Previous experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or materials management required; experience purchasing steel, metals, or commodities is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with a strong sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
- Demonstrated negotiation, organization, and follow-through skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including the ability to create reports, analyze data, and calculate figures.
- Able and willing to travel as business needs require.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
