Stationary Engineer

Duties

  • Operate and maintain boilers, air compressors, cooling towers and related equipment in accordance with state and plant requirements.
  • Work with site leadership to ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards applicable to the operation of stationary engineering systems.
  • Follow the duties of the Station Engineer outlined in form CSOP-310.
  • Provide reliable boiler coverage during regular operations.
  • Serve as the primary Grade 1 Licensed Stationary Engineer or as a designated back-up when required by the Company.
  • Complete continuous education requirements as needed to maintain Grade 1 Stationary Engineer licensing.
  • Pipe-fitting - Understands basic pipe-fitting theory and fluid dynamics. Knows proper use of levels, plumb bobs and layout techniques. Can identify and use various types of piping materials and schedules. Can operate pipe-threading equipment. Can perform proper gasket and bolt-up techniques. Can bevel and prep butt-weld fit-ups. Knows proper welding rod for given metallurgy. Able to install and repair various types of industrial valves. Able to run and connect copper and stainless steel tubing.
  • Welding/Burning - Understands concepts of welding, various joints and joint fit-ups. Set-up and use cutting torch. Stick welds carbon steel plate and structural material, stainless steel plate and structural material, carbon steel pipe (all positions). Brazing and soldering, carbon and plasma arc gouging.
  • Multi-Skilled Mechanic - Operates shop lathe and milling machine. Ability to properly use calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges and dial indicators. Understanding of various types of pumps, pump components, lubricants and lubricating systems. Rebuilds gear boxes and gear reducers, pumps, blowers, screws and conveyors. Assists in maintaining spare parts inventory.
  • Equipment Operation/Rigging - Understands theory of rigging, rigging safety, use of barricades, load balancing and spreader devices hazard identification and tag lines. Operates forklift, front-end loader and hydraulic crane. Sets up and uses air compressors and pneumatic tools. Select and uses proper type and size rigging for a job. Sets up and uses chain falls and lever hoists (properly).
  • Electrical - Understands basic electrical power theory and related safety hazards and proper/safe work procedures, electrical elements and components, terms and definitions, overload protection, fuses and circuit breakers, electrical symbols on construction drawings.

Qualifications

  • Stationary Engineer Licensing Pathway - Possession Grade 1 Stationary Engineer license from the Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers. Demonstrated ability to complete required coursework, examinations, and practical applications for continuous education requirements to maintain license.
  • Previous experience as a Multi-Skilled Mechanic.
  • 58 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience.
