Sky Meadows State Park is accepting applications for an Interpretive Ranger position. Job Summary Sky Meadows State Park is seeking an outgoing, energetic, and responsible individual to interface with guests and facilitate programs that further the park’s interpretive mission as part of the Visitor Experience team. The role of Interpretive Rangers on the Visitor Experience team is to create and execute meaningful experiences that connect visitors and community members to the natural, historical, and cultural resources preserved by the park. Interpretive Rangers are expected to effectively prioritize tasks and leverage creativity to deliver quality educational lessons, outdoor skill workshops, large-scale events, and other program formats. Interpretive Rangers serve as a positive, public-facing part of the Ranger team and are expected to work closely with volunteers and fellow park staff to continuously organize and improve park amenities and offerings. Key Duties And Responsibilities Will assist with the development, coordination, and facilitation of interpretive programs and educational outreach, including history programs, guided nature experiences, special events, and more.Requires regular, timely communication and collaboration with the general public, public and private schools, scout groups, local organizations, volunteers, and other park staff.Must maintain all interpretive supplies to ensure they are in good working order.Contribute to creative development of interpretive visual aids and literature offerings (such as fliers and brochures).Keep accurate records, update digital databases, and participate in planning endeavors.Conduct research into relevant historical and environmental topics to continuously improve foundational interpretive knowledge.Assist with the daily care of exhibit animals to ensure the overall health and well-being of reptile ambassadors. Able to work a scheduled shift of 2-3 days per week. Minimum Qualifications Ability to develop, organize, and facilitate natural, cultural, and historical programs and events for all ages.Must be comfortable with public speaking and provide excellent customer service to the public.Must be friendly, outgoing, and able to work unsupervised and/or with a team.Proficient with Microsoft Office software.Must be willing and able to attend mandatory, paid trainings when needed to comply with OSHA/State requirements.Must be willing to work shift work, including weekends, evenings, and holidays if needed.Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must possess a valid driver's license. Additional Considerations Experience in biology, history, parks and recreation, elementary education, and/or wildlife studies.Experience in natural and/or historical interpretation to include knowledge of Virginia history; understanding of ecology and familiarity with the area's flora and fauna.
